Peel Education Committee:
The Education Committee consists of volunteer
representatives from Brampton-Caledon Community Living, Community Living Mississauga,
Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board’s Special Education Advisory Committee
(SEAC), and Peel District School Board’s Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC). Education Committee members share a common vision with respect
to inclusion of children with special needs in the school system.
Our Vision:
“All children attend regular classrooms with
like-aged children in their neighbourhood school with appropriate supports.
They receive assistance in all transitional phases of their educational life,
including preschool to elementary to secondary, school to work, post-secondary
education, colleges and universities or continuing education.”
Education Liaison:
The Education Liaison position was developed
with the support of Peel’s developmental service providers and serves as a regional
resource for service providers in the Region of Peel supporting students with
a developmental disability. Funding from the Ministry of Children and Youth
services became available and the proposal was submitted with full approval
from the Peel Planning Group. This is a unique position in that it spans two
important areas of support for students with disabilities – the school board
and the developmental services sector.
The position was created with the intention
of strengthening the communication between the education system and the developmental
services sector. Its purpose is to provide support and resources to both sectors
in order to promote inclusion and to ensure students with developmental disabilities
are receiving the best possible education.
